Every story is different. For some reason we want to start playing the guitar, even if we sometimes don't know why. That's why I'm writing. The will to play the guitar is all you need to become a good guitar-player. Back in the past I always thought that I'm not musically talented. I couldn't read notes, neither hear notes and my grades in musical class were terrible. It does not matter! Don't listen to those classic listening-nerds at school or your parents, who would never believe you are a musician, only because they aren't! Do you think Jimmy Hendrix could read notes? No. Because it doesn't matter.
If you want to be a great musician, a guitar-player, then decide for yourself today that you are a musician! One of the biggest problems when it comes to learning the guitar is that you put yourself down. If you think you are untalented and everything you play sounds shit, well that's what it is.
So the first and most important lesson in starting to play the guitar is: You have to give a shit about what people say! You have to believe that you are a guitarist, a musician, no matter what comes to your mind. Along the way you will become what you believe in. Trust me, you will learn much faster, when your mind is clear and positive!
I know you want to get into chords and solos right away. Stay patient, relax and don't stress yourself. Playing the guitar has to be fun. It's not like a business where you have to reach a certain goal in a certain time. There will be times where you don't feel like playing at all, and other where you could play for hours. That's fine. In my opinion you should play when you feel like playing, not because you have to.
But remember, when you pick up the guitar, not just jam on it but also practice!
